White House Tour

As a private residence for the President of the United States and his family, this house is more like a mansion with its six levels, 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms and 28 fireplaces. It also has an indoor swimming pool, movie theater, basketball court, bowling lanes, billiard room, tennis court, jogging track, a broadcast room, a dentist office, a chocolate shop, a florist shop and a carpenter shop.
George Washington was responsible for choosing the site location, the design approval and commissioning the construction of the White House, but he never lived there. He died in 1799 and the White House was completed in 1800. George Washington is the only president that has not lived in the White House.
There are rumors that the White House is haunted. The most famous “ghost” is in the form of President Abraham Lincoln. During World War II, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill reported seeing Lincoln’s ghost while staying at the White House.
If you want to tour the White House, you will need to submit a tour request through a member of Congress from your state of residence. You can submit your request for up to three months in advance and these tours are free of charge.
