Visit the New Zealand Maritime Museum
Learn about the first Polynesian explorers and settlers and their historical connections to the sea through the museum’s exhibitions. Imagine yourself on a pioneering voyage of discovery as you walk through the Rocking Cabin, a creation of a steerage cabin on a heritage, sailing vessel. You will also learn the stories of men, women and children who left their families, friends, homes and possessions for a life of adventure and opportunity in this new land.
There is also a special exhibit dedicated to the sailing vessel, Blue Water Black Magic. It won the America’s Cup in San Diego in 1995, bringing this prestigious honor to New Zealand for the first time.
