Visit the Moken Sea Gypsies
The Andaman coast has been the home of the world’s last sea nomads, the Moken. They spend most of their lives on small, covered wooden boats and live on food from the ocean. The men use harpoons and spears to catch fish and the women and children use nets to catch shellfish in the shallow waters. The men teach their children how to spearfish by diving below the water’s surface. They trade fish and shells for rice and other necessities. For centuries, the ocean has been the universe of these fishermen and divers who live a nomadic lifestyle as they roam the waters and islands of the Andaman Sea.
