Tour the Ether Dome

One of the oldest operating rooms in the country, this room has seen more than 8,000 operations between 1821 and 1868. On October 16th, 1846 the first public surgery using anesthetic was performed. At that time, it was called the Massachusetts General Hospital Surgical Amphitheater. While visiting, check out its small collection of medical artifacts, paintings and even an old Egyptian mummy.
