A quick boat ride will get you to this popular sandbar where you can socialize with the oddly adorable, wild stingrays. They will glide so close to you that their fins will brush against your skin and they will eat right out of your hand. Professional guides are available to help you know how to safely hold, lift and interact with them.
Originally, this was an area where local fisherman would anchor their boats and clean the fish they had caught. They would gut their catch and throw the scraps overboard into the sea. The stingrays enjoyed the free meals. Soon, the sound of boat engines became the sound of the dinner bell to these hungry animals. Divers would also come to the area to feed the stingrays their favorite meal of squid. The warm, shallow waters became home to more than 90 of these gentle and graceful creatures.
