Pirates’ Cove

This hidden cove was a pirates’ hideout from 1690 to 1720. Some of the most famous pirates in history frequented this area. They included Calico Jack, Captain Kidd, Blackbeard, Mary Read, the legendary lady pirate and Anne Bonny, pirate Queen of the Caribbean. When the Salt Barons from Bermuda began colonizing the island, they drove out most of the pirates to protect their treasure troves of salt.
