Penguins of Ballestas Islands

Penguins of Ballestas Islands

If you make it down to the southern coast of Peru you should plan on a half-day trip to visit an island 24 km from the town of Paracas. It has been largely untouched by humans and is comparable to the Galapagos Islands for its high density of wildlife. In order to get to this secluded area, you have to schedule a tour. The two hours will go by quickly as you see hundreds of rare birds including pelicans, Peruvian boobies and of course the famous penguins. While out in the reserve, you can also see turtles, dolphins and whales inside the marine park. This is considered to be one of the best wildlife experiences in Peru.
