It’s one of the biggest parties in the U.S.A! This holiday is all about music, parades, picnics, floats and excitement. You will need to wear a costume or dress in purple, green, and gold and get a stash of long beads with unique designs to pass out. Experienced revelers bring a large bag with them so they can haul away all the beads and trinkets they will catch during the parades. The excitement goes all night on Bourbon Street, with live music playing in most of the bars. One minute you will be soothed by the sound of jazz and the next you will be dancing to reggae. People will walk and dance up and down the streets as people yell and throw beads from the second story balconies. On the day of Mardi Gras, the city shuts down and the focus is on the celebration.
