Marble Caves of Chile Chico

Marble Caves of Chile Chico

The only way to reach this unusual cave system is by a small boat or kayak on General Carrera Lake. This lake was formed by an ancient glacier and is surrounded by the Andes mountains. For thousands of years, the waves have washed against the mountain cliffs, eroding the marble walls and creating swirls of colors on the pillars, caverns and tunnels. As you drift through the calm waters of the cave, you will see formations that reflect the lake’s sparkling turquoise waters. The walls change colors, depending on the water levels and the season of the year. You will see splashes of vibrant shades of blue, pale greens, and grays and even hints of pink and purple in this unique wonder of nature.
