Explore the Night Markets and Snake Alley
An impressive feature of Taiwan’s culture is the night markets. One of the largest and most famous night markets is the Shihlin Night Market. It has traditional and classic foods along with more unusual items such as stinky tofu, pig’s bloodcake, chicken feet, duck tongue, century eggs and turtle soup. The streets are packed with shops, roadside stalls and vendors of food, fashion and fun.
If you are looking for a more exotic, night market experience, visit Huaxi Street’s Snake Alley. Eat unique foods made from snake meat or drink snake blood. Snake soup is believed to balance the body’s yin and yang. Traditional, Chinese medicine suggests that drinking snake blood, snake wine or snake venom is an aphrodisiac that enhances virility.
