Chillon Castle in Montreux
This medieval fortress on the shores of Lake Geneva near Montreux is the most visited historic monument in Switzerland. The oldest parts of the castle have not been definitively dated, but the first written record of the castle is in 1005. The entire complex consists of 25 buildings and three courtyards, protected by two circular walls. From the Castle, you can admire ten miles of sheltered bays, bordered with flower-lined promenades, exotic plants and palm trees.
